Course Objectives

  1. Prepare a dental office team for emergencies with a detailed plan of action.
  2. Identify and describe the basic elements of a pediatric dental sedation safety checklist.
  3. Understand how pediatric dentistry is adapting to the new era of COVID- 19.
  4. Appreciate how nitrous oxide is being used in the dental practice during the COVID-19 era.
  5. Understand the alternative options to the N95 mask in order to solve the PPE crisis.
  6. Provide a comprehensive review of the patient pre-sedation assessment necessary to identify appropriate candidates for procedural sedation.
  7. Implement recommended physiologic monitoring, including capnography, used to continuously assess patient status and to identify acute changes.
  8. Employ non-pharmacologic and behavioral management techniques and strategies to minimize sedatives administered and improve the patient experience.
  9. Analyze recent changes in guidelines, regulations, policies and future developments in dental sedation systems and their impact on patient care.
